CSD is back!

We are delighted to have been together rehearsing for the last few weeks, albeit still outdoors for now! From September we expect to be meeting regularly together indoors again to make music, and we would be delighted to hear from you if you are looking for a Cambridge-based, non-contesting, friendly band to join. It’s an exciting time for the band as we work out our recovery plan and we welcome enquiries from any brass or percussion instrumentalists, even if you are considering coming back to music-making after not having played for a while!

Alternatively, come listen to us at Swaffham Bulbeck fair on Saturday 14th August!

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update Monday 16th March 2020

16 Monday Mar 2020

Following advice from the British government and Brass Bands England (https://www.bbe.org.uk/news/16032020-1755/bbe-statement-the-covid-19-pandemic), and in common with other local bands, CSD Brass has ceased all activities indefinitely.

We will be making efforts to stay in touch socially, and if you have an interest in joining us, please still get in touch. It would be great to get to know you so we can hit the ground running when we do reconvene after the pandemic.

If you are interested in booking the band, we would gladly hear from you, especially for carolling jobs in December, when we expect to be fully back to normal again.

A CSD Christmas!

20 Wednesday Nov 2019

Fresh from our exhilarating performance at Arbury’s Church of the Good Shepherd, we are enjoying preparations for Christmas. You can hear us carolling merrily away at:

  • Milton Road Primary School PTA Christmas Fair, 6th December;
  • Scotsdales Great Shelford 12pm-2pm Sunday 8th December;
  • St Andrew’s Church Chesterton Carol Service, Thursday 19th December;
  • Bourn Village carol event, Saturday 21st December;

As Cambridge’s only non-contesting community brass band, we immensely value the honorary president of the band, distinguished composer and musician Rodney Newton. We are looking forward to premiering his Cambridge Variations, a new piece commissioned by the band. Watch this space for opportunities to hear us play it next year!

Sarcoma UK benefit concert funds raised

17 Wednesday May 2017

We are delighted to announce that our recent concert in aid of Sarcoma UK raised £1,054 to help people affected by sarcoma. The concert, held at St. Barnabas Church last March, saw CSD Brass join forces with local ten-piece ensemble Prime Brass and visiting National First Section band Jersey Premier Brass for an evening extravaganza.

The bands dedicated the benefit concert to the memory of Dr. Luke Salter, a popular and respected member of the local brass playing community, who sadly died from Ewing’s sarcoma in 2002. More recently, this form of cancer also led to the death of internationally-renowned trumpeter Derek Watkins in 2013.

Sarcoma UK‘s mission is to amplify sarcoma awareness, inspire involvement, and fund ground-breaking research to transform the lives of everyone affected by sarcoma. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on voluntary donations.

CSD Brass will be performing their next concert, “Tournament for Brass and other pieces” at 7pm this Saturday, May 20th at St. Luke’s Church, Victoria Road.
