CSD Easter Exchange

Cambridge has been twinned with Heidelberg, a university city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, since 1957. For over twenty years, CSD has been linked with a Heidelberg wind band, the Orchesterverein Handschuhsheim. The coronavirus pandemic put our exchanges on hold but we were delighted this Easter to once again host our German friends in Cambridge. We look forward to visiting Heidelberg in 2025.

Spring Concert

A new year for CSD brings the promise of many exciting things – firstly, our next concert of major works for brass band on Sunday 24th March, at 3pm at St Luke’s Church, Victoria Road, Cambridge. We are particularly excited to be working on the great Edward Elgar’s composition for the 1930 National Brass Band Championships, the Severn Suite. Tickets available here. We hope to see you there!

Happy New Year

We are looking forward to a brilliant 2024, with major concerts in March, November and December as well as a programme of lighter music in the summer and at Christmas.

Now is a great time to join us! We have vacancies for percussion (tuned and kit) and Bb Bass. Prior brass band experience not necessary. We can offer a friendly and welcoming group of fellow musicians, an inclusive ethos and an exciting calendar of concerts and events. Contact csdbrass@gmail.com to enquire.

Although we don’t have full vacancies in other sections, we would welcome enquiries from other brass players to make connections in case of future changes.

Concert raises the roof

We were delighted to perform last week our gala concert to a full house at St Luke’s Church. We have worked hard and had fun preparing our programme and it was great to hear many appreciative comments from the wonderful audience. We were especially happy to be playing with young soloist Cameron Scott and to see our honorary president, Rodney Newton, again.

Our next concert will be on Sunday 24th March, 2024, at the same venue. We hope to see you there!

CSD looks forward to a glorious banding summer

It was a delight to perform to a full St Luke’s Church in our Spring Concert, and we are now loving getting to grips with a whole lot of new summer repertoire! Featuring lots of the band members’ favourites as well as our own tribute to the King’s coronation and Disney’s centenary there will be lots to put a smile on our audience’s faces. Come along to one of our public gigs this summer to hear us!
